Who can’t resist a generous serving of burger? If you are being warned against this greasy, but well-loved fare, here is a burger made of healthy lentils for you that is short on bad cholesterol and loaded with more protein and all the goodness of a burger.
2 1/2 Cup water
1 Cup Dried Lentils
2 pcs Bay leaves
1 tsp Olive Oil
1 Cup Onion, finely chopped
1/2 Cup Carrot, finely chopped
1 Cup Smoked Cheddar Cheese, shredded
1/2 Cup Dry Breadcrumbs
3 large Egg Whites, lightly beaten
Spices: Thyme, Paprika and Garlic Powder
Seasonings: Salt &Pepper to taste
Sandwich Buns, toasted
2 Cups Arugula, trimmed
Put the lentils, in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer until tender or about 30 minutes. Drain the excess water and remove the bay leaves. Mash the lentils in a bowl set aside to cool slightly.
Heat up a pan and sauté the chopped up onion and carrots for approximately 5 minutes or so. Let it cool before adding up the remaining ingredients except the last 5 items.
Mix everything including the lentils before chilling for less than an hour. Divide the lentil mixture into eight portions or more depending on the size of patties you want to make.
Grill the burgers for at least 5 minutes on each side over medium heat. Serve in toasted buns with a tomato slice, arugula and mustard.
